I create Japanese gardens — both contemporary and traditional — and teach the art of ikebana.

In both, I am interested in much the same things: form and emptiness, natural materials and man-made structures,an object and the space around it.

For me, gardens and ikebana are ways of working with space, time and attention.Perhaps that is where my interest in contemporary art comes from.
